2.2 problems
Thursday, July 13, 2006 6:58 PM
ok, i recently just replaced the head gaskets in my 2.2 cavy, i used a new gasket(obviously) new headbolts and the bolts were torqued to spec by a mechanic. well now it dont overheat but now it idles rough after it runs for about 5 mins and it smokes black. well i drove it like that for a while cuz i had no choicce(had to work) and if your driving it and u push the gas, it like to ut out and puff some black smoke out. after about a month of doing this the cat clogged and i chopped it off so im running a straight pipe and the rear O2 sensor is prettty dirry but it seems to runs a alittle better but still idles rough and sputters black. i also replaced to fuel injector o-rings. it seems to have a messed up fuel/air ratio. i was told by a few people to check the map sensor and the IAC unit and to see if the intake manifold is leaking, i just dont have money to spare or much time. if someone could give me their opinion i would really appreciate it, thanks

also im looking for a stock twin cam 2.4 possibly for a small price tag, just incase this engine dosent work right, plus im wanting to make it a little faster and some more potential

You might have cracked the plastic tubes hooked up to the 'octopus' from the throttle body. In any case, you'll have to put a cat back on to pass inspection. Heavy fines if caught with out one, to.

I live in Indiana; there are not car inspections.

I've visited Indiana a few times. You folks need an inspection program, and FAST! No offense, but I've never seen so many hole-ly vehicles in all my life! Then I thought of what can't I see that might be weak, worn, or broken. Enjoyed visiting family and friends, but was glad to leave.

yeah indiana is a poor state lots of piece of @!#$ cars but then again im wanting to convert my civic to rhd soon (the cavy is my brothers) cops arent real strict about junk cars either my and a friend cruise without a windshield and doors and the top just for the hell of it to be different, cops dont care, but we did get told to "drive with a god damn lick of sense" by some off duty pig..... well back to the cavy.... there out there doing the intake manifold gasket now.... well see how it works....

intake manifold gasket made no difference. if you take off the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator off it runs the same as it would if it was on.... fuel pressure regulator... we'll see....

AAahhh... gotta love Indiana. The only thing cops don't really put up with here is 10+ over the speed limit. Everything else is pretty lax.
