leaking water pump

yesterday i changed the water pump on a friends 98 cavalier (2.2 autotragic) ive never done it before, but it seemed like a pretty simple task. okay, i put "loctite sealant" on the block side of the gasket, and then put it on and torqued the bolts down to spec. he takes the car around the block and its fine. we go down the street to a pizza place and its visibly good, but after we come out theres a 6 inch puddle of coolant under the pump. im stumped. the top, and both sides of the gasket are fine; i couldnt see the bottom obviously. he drove back home, and he called me today saying that the gasket is leaking. wtf. if the gasket wasnt sealing like it should, wouldnt water be pissing out because of all the pressure? i think youre supposed to use RTV sealant on the mating surface; he didnt have any because his dad said he didnt need it; is that causing the gasket to supposedly leak?

Well for the silicone sealant is a RTV, Its has to be a high Temp sealant, I am thinking if it leaking it could be the hoses are no good, Or not tight enough.
