As the post states what is the idle speed for my car?? its a 96 sunfire 2.2 5sp... im idling at 1000... i installed new plugs it went down to about 800 and is back up again. my gap is correct (.6) and i have always idled at 1000..

If its normal for your car, then its normal. Have you checked for any vacume leaks?

And what plugs are you using?

2.2 with manual idles @ 900 +/-, auto is 750. There is an adjusting screw on the butterfly valve linkage, bottom passenger side. It might not be right. Check the butterfly to see if it's closing fully, but not so far as to start gouging the throttle body. Next to check is the IAC, which is very prone to carbon buildup. Take it out, scrub it clean, if need be, with an old toothbrush and cleaner. Do it's bore as well. Hook it all back up and turn the engine 'on', not 'start', a few times to reset the IAC. Wait until the fuel pump stops in between turn-ons.
