96 sunfire 2.2L
I recently changed my spark plugs because my idle was @1000 constatnly. After i changed my plugs and did my first startup my idle stayed around 800. At that point i was happy so i shut my car off and cleaned up. When i restarted my car to test the new plugs out my idle was back to 1000RPM. 1) what is the idle speed for these 2.2L sunfires and why did it go back up???
Would resetting the computer help(i always unplug the battery to do stereo installs and stuff). I know people mention vacuum hoses, but i need to see it visually to check the location in my car.... If this could be linked to a vacuum hose could i see a pic, if not all suggestions would help..
Thanks for all the input.
what gap did you use?
And what plugs specificly?
I set my Gap to about .034, and i used NGK G-Power Plugs (they have a platinum tip)

sorry guys, i just finished my math and didnt realize my mistake till i wrote it, i set the Gap to .060
I thought its supposed to be 0.40 gap?
according to haynes manual a 1998 and older 2.2 engine should use a .060 gap, a 99-2000 needs a .050 gap and a 2001+ needs a .040 gap

mikec2003 is correct the gap is stated under the hood as .06 any suggestions to as why im idling at 1000?? its about 1100RPM when i first start the car.
mine idles at 1000 rpm as well but I think thats normal for a 5 speed .
Mine says 900, and I thought that was the proper idle. + - 100 or 200 is pretty normal, probably more because the gauge is off than the idle.

Josh:
1) Fill out your profile, or your gonna have problems with cranky mods.
2) Automatic or manual?
The auto idles at 5-600 rpms, with the manual stays at the 1K mark.
