Recently I posted on this forum about the chugging/missing my car was doing. It ended up being the bottom coil. BUT it's doing it again. So I am thinking it is going through coils. If that is the case...what really causes it? My guy says its the control module? Anyway, any ideas would be awesome. You guys have helped a lot as it is.

I recall a similar experience with a Buick Century, the coil caused intermittant poor acceleration whilst misfirng.

A new coil fixed the problem for a month and then the fault returned.

The garage replaced the "new" damaged coil at no charge but also (as your guy says) the ignition control module.

This was a permanent fix.

So in some cases the coil is damaged by a faulty module.

ignition module. You can get a module with the packs on it from a scrap yard for about the price of one coil. They are very common.

Check your plug wires for proper resistance. Too much and they'll cause the packs to fry.

Check to see that they're not getting shorted due to moisture, too. For the longest time I was having the issue that I would fry a coil every time I'd drive during heavy rain or if I went through a carwash with the underbody spray. I went through five coil packs in the span of a year. Turned out the problem was due to moisture. I was putting grease on the connections but apparently I wasn't using enough and eventually one would fry. Why GM put the ignition under the intake I'll never know. Fricken retards.

An excessive spark plug gap will cause additional stress on the coils.
