EGR vavle Code
Tuesday, July 11, 2006 1:35 PM
The code said it was the EGR valve so I replaced it. The check engine light is still on, the man at the parts store said up to 14 days. Seems kinda long and fishy . But I'm just worried it maybe the sensor rather than the valve which is 3/4 the cost. any expirences with this and what might work would be sweeet.

Was the code for low flow? If so more than likely it was a clogged passage, not the valve.

Parts store people are morons, hoenst to God. Their job is to sell parts to you, so their store has the highest sales. If so employees and the managers get bonuses, and higher raises.

Well I'm not sure the store did it for me. but when i replaced it i fired it up with out to blow out access carbon. the passage ways were not really that bad.

you will need an obd2 scanner to clear it out. most part stores will do it, but they aren't expensive so you will be better off buyin one for yourself.

I bought a obd 2 scanner for about $100 can/ $75us it's money well spent. In the "old" days obd 1's you could stick a wire in the test term and ground term and the engine light would flash a code (3 flashs ..pause 2 flashs) code 32 etc now you need the scanner to read it and clear the code(s) If your engine light is still on your car is still running in a "open loop" from memory which means the brain still thinks there's something wrong and is running faster to keep from stalling till you have the repair looked at and cleared ...you might have fixed it but never cleared it ...How did you know what code it was?

I had heard that the computer will keep the code internally, but will turn off your check engine light after a certain number of key cycles (starting & stopping).

Mine would always eventually turn back off when I had codes before.
