mine does that all the time, I think it is related to a BCM issue I am having (see maintanence forum) I think it is related to command start installation, or something in the BCM just f'ing up. It may be a recall on your car, pending your year, I have done some searching around. when I get mine fixed/figured out I will let you know what we did.

Try checking your grounds. I had a bad ground when I moved my battery to the trunk. I grounded the battery to the frame and then forgot the ground from the frame to the motor up front. It make my service light and gauge problems go away. Check for tightness on each ground and any corrosion.

Also if the vehicle is OBDII (1996+) see what the diagnostic code reads... could be very simple, you can usually get the code checked at Pepboys and the like, worst case scenario (at least in WA) get an OBDII check there, it will at least read the code off to you for $15, then you can google the code FTW.

OBDII is a lifesaver.

I had this problem when my car was in an accident, they disconnected my alarm and since my aftermarket alarm was not ground or anything, the passlock was linked to it. So the ground made the BCM think that the passlock failed and needs repairs. So check grounds like Black said, otherwise, your gonna need someone to look at it. Maybe check your I/P fuse too
