My window stopped going up after it was lowered. So I took it into the dealer, assuming it was the motor. So they pull it apart and find out not only the motor is broken, but the power window regulator is too.
They showed me the regulator, and the only thing broken on it, is the 1/4" piece of steel that coils around a post on the inside (faceing the outside of the door). Its snapped where it slides though the post and then apparently a pin is missing that the other end wraps around.
I go to the wreckers and look at like 12 doors and not a single one has this coil on it. And I can't imagine them falling off as they would need to break in a few different spots for it to happen.
I bring one to the dealer and they don't want to install it b/c it doesn't have the coil. I argue with the mechanic b/c I can't see what this coil does.
If anyone has a picture of a power window motor regulator out of the car, please post it, I'd love to see if they have this coil on it.
Thanks alot,
Shane
You don't need the coil. The last time I replaced mine, I wrestled with that thing to get it back in place and finally got it. The, after I put it all back together, the first time I put my window down the spring just dropped off and fell in the door.
After all that... I took off the panel on the other side and lo and behold... no clock spring. And it works better now than it ever had before.
That clock spring is supposed to act to counter the weight of the window and make the load on the motor easier. It really doesn't seem to do squat though.
Weasel, thanks so much, thats the kind of info I want to hear.
Basically I am going to tell the dealership to put it back together as they would if the spring was there. Either way they are going to charge me labour, so they might as well but it back together for me.
As with you, I understand the spring could help, but I cannot imagine the motor needing it, as it has quite alot of torque anyways.
If any one else has experienced something similar, or different even please post.
