hey, my cavalier has 172k on it and 2 gear just died on me, *( 1995, 4 door, 2.2L)* so i got to looking around and found a 1996, 2door, 2.2L. with 80k..... just wondering if the motor and transmission would swap out with out any problems. Thanks for your time
as long as they are the same trans yea and the 95 is a OBD 2. Just check if there is a O2 sensor after the cat.

That's a good point. Never thought about the OBD 2 thing. I thought 95 was last year of OBD 1?
Wouldn't there be electronic components to switch out?
Motor and transmission will be a direct swap. You wont have any issues with it. You dont need to worry about the OBD-I / ODB-II crap because you're not swapping the computers, just the motor. All the connections at the motor are the same, so you just swap it over, plug it in, and go.
Except for the starter, apparently. I just found this thread on a different search:

You' ll have to use the starter from the 96...
