I hate coincidences like this, i bought a coolant testor so i figured I would test my coolant. So...i did and everything was good then I started driving and noticed the temp going a little passed the middle. I then pulled into a drive thru and what do you know the needle goes almost all the way to the end and I noticed the smell of coolant. I have never had an overheating problem until after I tested the coolant, the fans turn on and it stays a little pass the middle on the highway but when Im going slow or stopped it keeps going up. Should I check my thermostat, flush my system?
btw the car is a 2000 Sunfire 2.2L
DId you put the cap back on the resivour nice and tight?\
and i know i spelt a word wrong, but spell check coudn't figure it out either.
Yes, when I took it off to check I heard the pressure being released. That was the first thing i thought of i was thinking i didnt put it back on at all. But yes the fan does come on and the previous owner told me they changed the water pump. And according to the prestone tester my coolant is good. Car has 97K miles
I already read that, I know its not the fan. How would I be able to tell if its the pump or the termostat?
buy a new resiviour cap. they are like 15 bucks. my old 96 had the same problem.
I dont think just a resivour cap would make the engine heat up so fast, I went out and bought a new termostat and hanes manuel today, I was reading and it said one of the signs the water pump is bad is if there is a high pitched squel coming from the bearings...well there is a high pitched squel but it stops when ever I t urn my ac on so I thought it was an ac problem. Could it be a problem with the waterpump?
Does steam come up on your front window? do you smell radiator inside the cabin? It could be your heater core, and that REALLY sux ass to try and fix.
ha well it better not be since i already bought a new water pump and thermostat and already stripped the thermostat housing bolts. Im sure it cant suck ass more than removing the serpant belt to replace the water pump
actualyl a bad cap could cause this b/c i wouldnt keep the system held at the correct pressure, the lower the pressure, the lower the boiling point causing over heating.
water pump's e z to do in these...i did my moms 99 cav
ha a bad cap...OMG if I found out it was a bad cap after all this crap i think I would kill myself
Ha...would you believe it...it was the freakin cap after all...
