No Rear BRAKES!!!!
Monday, July 03, 2006 4:08 PM
Went to bleed the brakes on my moms 98 z24, where i discovered that there is no fluid going to the rear brakes!

I had a friend pump the brakes, I craked open the right rear bleeder, and no fluid came out. Same thing on the left rear.

The front brakes bled fine, as did the two bleeders on the master cylinder.

( For those that are questioning my mechanical ability, I bleed brakes all the time on my Legends and LMS race cars).

Before I go ripping apart and replacing pieces of the brake system, any suggestions?

If you had no rear brakes you would notice when driving. The rears apply less than 1/4 a second before the fronts to prevent the car going into a tailspin. Secondly your fronts would be wearing out a lot more often, since instead of doing 80% of braking, they would be doing 100&.

How does the pedal feel?

Is the brake light on?

I can tell that the rears are not working, as I have pulled the drums off, and there is no dust and or signs of wear over the last 15,000 miles (last time I serviced the brakes).

The brake lights come on, and the pedal feels extremely hard, with very little travel before it bottoms out.

I didnt mean the actual brake lights, is the warning light on the dash illuminated or not?

As for the pedal feeling very hard that is usually an indiaction of the powr booster gone bad.

Do a quick test, get in the car and rest your foot on the brake pedal ( dont apply any pressure to it). With your foot resting, start the car does the pedal travel down slighty, it should.
