How do I test the IAT Sensor?
Tuesday, June 27, 2006 4:28 PM
I keep getting this code with my sensor, P0113 - Intake air temp circuit high . My car is due for inspection so i need to get rid of this soon. How would i go about testing the sensor and the circuit? It was taken out and then put back in when i installed a cold air intake, so maybe i hooked it up wrong. I tried testing the wires with a testor light but didnt get anything. Any suggestions?

The IAT and ECT operate the same way.

See my post

"The help my car is overheating post"

Scroll down to where I talk about testing the ECT, the IAT is tested the same way.

I think I am just going to replace the IAT sensor and connect via butt connectors. There are 2 wires how do I know which ones connect to the IAT pigtails?

The IAT is a thermister. I believe it is a three wire sensor. One for ground, one for 5V ref., and one for signal.

Nope only 2 wires, well anyways i decided to take the sensor out of the intake (incase it was just getting too much air flow) and just tape it on the outside of the intake. So i cut the wire connect them with butt connectors then took off the sensor and stuck my multimeter in the clip for the sensor. With the engine running i got a 7.6V out of one side and 0 out of the other.

Well guys i figured it out, if anyone has a similar problem the IAT sensor is basically a resistor so you can test the circuit using a multimeter set for resistance, if you want to test the actual sensor you can either blow on it or use a blow dryer to see if the resistance changes.
