I've got an 02 2.2L with 5 spd
Is the clutch self adjusting? I ask this because my clutch grabs pretty close near the top. I thought that my clutch might be going, but it doesnt have any symptoms of a clutch that is on it's way out. I've got 147,000km on my stock clutch.
Clutch isn't slipping - I've been in 4th gear and pounded the gas down, the throttle is very responsive. There's no clutch chatter at all either, it's just that the clutch grabs near the very top. Car starts fine, clutch is as it's always been, just grabs at the top.
Any input would be great, thanks guys
Youre clutch is not adjustable, Just hydraulic clutch set up.
If its anything like on a few cars and trucks ive worked on there is a way to adjust the feel of the pedal. Its just how the pedal throws the linkage for the clutch master cylinder. I had to change the clutch master cylinder on my wifes car not to long ago. after i got the new part installed the clutch grabbed almost at the floor. made it tricky to drive. i went back underneath the dash and unscrewed the rod going to the pedal and i think made the stroke longer (adjusted the nut out towards the end of the shaft) to make the feel of where the clutch engages is closer to the top. Im thinking that you should have to shorten the stroke by taking the nut on the pedal and taking it in. just take your time and adjust it till you feel its right.
I hope this helps.
im not sure if these cars do, but allot of clutches are self adjusting. it adjusts on the pressure plate. but like i said, im not sure if our cars have that
Cool - that helps a bunch, thanks.
The only thing I was worried about was that since the clutch was grabbing near the top (like I mean right near the top, it engages about an inch from the very top), if it was actually going. It's been like that for a while, but clutch still grabs strong
Was afraid that it would grab higher and higher until it didn't grab no more

I'm just a newb when it comes to how the clutch works
