I have been having a problem with the lights on my 97 sunfire. When they are on the passenger low beam doesn't come on, high beams seem to be working fine. I thought(hoped) it was the switch but after changing it twice i have come to the conclusion that's not it. Is there a relay or something anywhere that I should check or which wires should I check for voltage.
Oh and yes, I have changed the bulb even swapped the drivers over to the passenger and the driver side was working on the driver side only.
If it ain't the switch on the steering colum, then try the relay, usually located behind the front bumper. Typically, it's press-pin mounted into the fascia. Look up from underneath, or down from top when the hood is up. Should be 'bout in the middle. That's the relay for the DRLs, could be fouled in some way causing your problem.
I had a similar problem in my '96 sunfire. The DRL lamp on the dash would flash when my lights were off.
The cause of my problem was a severely corroded wire splice. The wire splice is located within a foot of the DRL relay. It is easy to find once the electrical tape is removed from the wiring harness leading up to the DRL Relay. To fix the problem I cut out the corroded wire and replaced it with a new section of wire.
