I haven't actually taken a look at the engine, been busy working on my '96. I just notice it ticks really loud at idle, especially when I just start it, on the top end. It is the sound you'd get in a cold starting car on a cold day in the middle of winter, like there's not much oil up there or something. It goes away as soon as I rev it up a bit, and then comes back at idle.
It has fresh oil, and it is full of oil.
Has anyone had a similar problem, and is there anything in particular I should look at first off, rather then just checking all of the usual things?
mine does that. but it goes away when I turn the radio on
The dealer told me it was normal
Be sure that it is coming from your valve cover and not your timing cover. If it's your timing chain tensioner in its early stages of going out it they some times make a ticking noise at idle. an easy way to tell is to take a long pry bar or screwdriver with your ear to the handle and rest the other end on both covers it will sound louder where the tick is coming from. other things to consider is a different viscocity oil.
