When my A/C compressor is off the clutch sqeuals and sounds like a lose belt. But when the compressor is on, the sound vanishes. Sometimes i can wd40 the @!#$ out of the entire pulley/clutch assembly but that will last from a few minutes to a day. Some days the sound is gone, mostly when its cold and dry out, but when its humid and warm it loves to scream

Sounds like a bad ac compressor... does the ac work, blow cold??
I've got a mystery squeak/squeal of my own that I wondered about the AC clutch. It does it whether the car is moving or not, but when you pop the hood it all but stops, and hasn't ever done it with the car jacked up, so it's been a real PITA to find. I don't use my AC much, so I"ll have to try throwing it on to see if it goes away. If you sort it out, please post back.
15.3 @ 89.97mph, 14's on the way?
I have the same problem, and my A/C blows ice cold air, but I also just recharged the system. When I lube the clutch with WD-40 or brake clean or something the squeal goes away, but most of the time it's a loud, high pitched squeal. Someone solve this for all of us please.
Tim
Well, turning the AC on doesn't make my noise go away, but the extra vibrations may help me pinpoint the source, I'll be keeping an eye on this though.

turning on my AC does seem to make the noise go away for me, i'll listen to it more today
I have been having the same problem with my 2000 sunfire, it idles or drives below 30 MPH i hear the high pitched squeal/rattle. When I go over 30 or put the AC on it stops. I thought it may have been a bearing or something, let me know if you guys figure it out
Yah same thing here espally the cold and dry, people have told me that its The A/C Compresser Clutch. They told me its easer to just replace the A/C unit insted of just the clutch, also looking at prices might as well go all in...
hmm really? How much does the A/c unit go for and how difficult is it to replace
when i went to the dealer and asked them about this problem (which i have as well) they told me it was the a/c compressor wheel bearing.
i'm baaaaack!!
Yes, I asked a mechanic and they told me the same thing "its prob the bearing"
