Hello All
first problem with my Z. its a 2001 Z24, 89,000K
My fuel Gage is displaying Full, and not moving off. Now I wish my car just stayed full all the time but being real, its kind of a problem.
Now im trying to figure out if you guys think its just the float stuck, take it for a rough drive to shake the hell out of the gas in the tank to try and knock the float free? is there a float ? where is it? any diagrams on the net here?
Or is something in the tank sticking on the sensor or whatever it is in the tank that tells its full, is it just a matter of getting a fuel system cleaner.
Or should I go and pay 2 hours of labour at a shop (about $180) for them to drop the tank and look at the sending unit?
anyone got some suggestions or had this problem b4, let me know, would be great.
Thanks in advance.
Below is a link to another fuel sender question.

This is me:-
GM fuel gauge senders use a resistance value of 0 ohms EMPTY and 90 ohms full.
To check the gauge and narrow things down to the sender
If the sender wire is disconnected the Gauge should read FULL i.e. it's at more than 90 ohms-it's open circuited.
If the sender wire is touched to EARTH the gauge should read EMPTY --0 ohms
With the ignition ON , of course
Purple or Pink is the sender output.
Check also the BLACK earth wire is a good earth/ground.
There is a variable resistor in the fuel tank (The Sender) which varies from 0 Ohms- Empty to 90 ohms-Full, this variable resistor is altered by the fuel level acting on a float connected to the variable resistor.
If you can find the sender wire(At the Fuel Tank), as above, and "Ground" it then "Open" it (Connect it to nothing, you should read Empty then Full. If you do read empty then full in this test then it IS the fuel sender for sure and the gauge and wiring are OK
This will, at least, save you the expense of having the tank dropped if it is not necessary.
Hope this helps
Good Luck
