So in the last week, my 97 sunfire has started making a squeeling noise when making left hand turns. It comes and goes, about 50% of the time i'd say. Only when turning left for some reason. Anyone have any idea what I can look for? Just had to happen right before I was about to sell it!
Thanks.
Can you be more specific? Does it do it when you're going fast/slow? While turning the wheel, or while turned? Metalic squeal? Pitch/volume varies with speed? Left/right side?
Probably the brake pads need to be replaced.
kinda a higher pitched whine, can't really tell which side it's from, but the passengers dont' seem to hear it as much as me. Pads could do that eh? I'll have to pull the tire off to take a look.... Never noticed any difference in pitch due to speed, always sounds the same.
sounds like pads to me to. did the same thing last summer. so i replaced the pads. its the indicator dragging on the rotor is what you are hearing.
Classic sign of the front brake pads being worn.

Sweet, i'll have to pull the wheels off this weekend, just been so busy building a garage. Lil relieved that it's probably not a bigger problem! Thanks all.
Was it the brake pads?
I find that HARD to believe...
How is the Power steering fluid level?

while you are under there check your CV boots just to be sure, they would make more of a grinding/clacking sound rather than a squeal, but always better safe than sorry.
i doubt its brakes. they dont just squeal sometimes...the squeak when you hit the brakes, not normally when you make a turn.
if power steering fluid was low or the pump was going bad it normally does it every turn and when you crank the wheel hard either way.
Was it the pads?
I am having the exact same problem with my 2000 sunfire. It is strange that it only happens when turning left. I may just do a brake job anyway and see if it fixes it although I have never come across this before with any other car....
