I know this has been talked about many times but when I searched I didn't find much helpful but "go buy the tool."
I have an '04 LS Sport and decided I'd try it without the tool. All you have to do is lift the long part of the green tab up (pops up, clipped under the shorter green side) which I could do with my finger, but a flat head would work if you can't. Then the short end of the green clip needs to be pushed into the black disconnect. Meaning, push it in to where it "disappears". That loosens the green clip on the back side, which wraps around the whole disconnect. Then, simply pull it off. Took me a while to figure that out, but it's very simple. Reinstalled new filter (Purolator) with original quick disconnect and no leaks. Anyways, just figured I'd write this so someone who searches next can read and possibly understand it.
Great. Now maybe you can tell us how to change the filter when tose tabs are broken off, without dropping the tank and replacing the entore line from the pump to the filter. Because I'm in desparate need of a new filter.
^ Is exactly why I posted this... but for those who have already broken the clip I'm useless. I did read several places where people rigged new fuel line and used a clamp... Have you found any of that searching?
Kyle, would it help some of us to buy
the clip, practice before we tried to
remove the old one ? (You did an
excellent job to explain the procedure,
but I think seeing the clip would help
me a lot.)
my clip was broke, and i had the dealer replace it, there is an old post, but couldnt find it. What they did is cut the fuel filter by the nipple where it goes into the quick release, and they dug the rest out, but there is a chance of it breaking, then your gonna have to buy a whole new fuel pump.
I'm not good at posting pics on here, ha. But I'll take a picture or two to better illustrate what I meant in the procedure. I'm not sure what years my description qualifies for, but like I said, mine is a 2004.
Yeah that style you have is really nice....just pop the clip up and push out.....unfortunaly not every car is like that......we that dont have that setup have to use the tool or figure some other way......i have a 97Z with 82K on it and the clip in still intact and not broken....works like new everytime.....
Yea I need to do this on mine. I went to a shop today & they were going to charge me $38 to change it. I said no thanks, i'll do it myself. Now I just hope I can manage that!

travis, i said the same thing, but unless you can buy the tool (which I didn't) and don't break the clip... you are lookin at over $500 to replace the filter... the filter, pump, and lines are all one piece... so BE VERY CAREFUL please...
Ok yea I might just have it done! Don't want to create more problems!

I have never used whatever tool this is and have only seen the clips in the 3102/3103 style from ken-co, is there another style?
