Repeat O2 sensor problem, P0133

On my way to work today i got a CEL light, on the way home i got it read and its P0133, slow O2 sensor response, Bank 1 sensor 1. I replaced this sensor about 4 months ago with a dealer part and haven't had any problems until now. Could it be the wire just got too close to the headers or something like that? I really don't want to have to buy a new sensor but any help will be helpful. Thanks

reading 97 GM manual there are a few other possible causes:


Richness caused by:
1: too high fuel pressure
2: leaking injector
3: leaking fuel pressure regualtor
4: Map sensor reading high
5: tps Falsing, tricking the the pcm into thinking there is acceleraltion

Also an exhaust leak could possibly cause the O2 to see a rich condition.

Sorry about posting in the performance, forgot where i was. I did just do the HO manifold swap. It is working great, for the past 5 days. Still seems to be running fine. I guess i will check all the connections that i messed with. Some of what you listed i had to change/mess with. Anyone else?

I'd guess exhaust leak. Smell funny in there anywhere?

not really, sometimes a little like gass but i figure thats cause its been running rich for a while. Or at least i think it has been. I think i am going to do a dyno soon and get an A/F map. I can't wait for the HP tuners softwear.

Engine:

* Vibrant Intake
* Custom 2.25" cat-back
* Tenzo R muffler with 4" burnt titanium tip
* fidenza short throw
* Pacesetter ceramic coated 4-1 headers
* Magnaflow high flow cat
* 2.3 HO mani swap

is the culprit. pretty common problem w/ the pacesetter header, probably because of the length of the o2 bung. anyway, every so often i get it too, i just clear the code though and thats it.

Is there a way to clear it without unplugging the battery for a few hours. I tried the relearn procedure and that didnt work.
Is the bung to short or too long?
Why would an exhaust leak cause it to throw the code and run rich? Could my fairly freely flowing exhaust make it act like it had a leak?
Does anyone know if the HPT softwear can fix this constant problem? Sorry if this should go into that thread.

Clear - scan tool, or 3 consectutive warm up cycles with no problem will "self clear"

A exhaust leak shows rich because of the fresh air that can leak into the exhaust and past the O2 sensor. This fools the O2 into seeing a lean condition condition (extra O2) which will cause the PCM to run rich.

Can the HPT softwear clear CELS? I am going to buy that soon, could that help.

Also where can i buy the OBD-II scanner? How much is typical?

What it means is that if the pcm see's no problem in the O2 circuit during 3 consecutive warm up cycles (ie engine to running temp) then it will remove the CEL but the code will remain in the "history" which can be read by a scanner. As for where to get one, just type OBD 2 (or II) scanner into ebay and you'll find several examples ranging from $90+.

I got a question
sorry to bring this topic up.
i just got this problem also with the o2 bank1 sensor 1

well i had two that on and the one with the fuel circuit (i change the fuel pump and it went away)
anyway the code still coming up P0133

the cars runs fine no exhaust leak nothing bad the O2 sensor are new i changed them a couples months ago one.
i havent notice if my car is running rich but before it was running a little lean on the aceleration. i will check in a week when i put more gas on my car.
when i check it with my mechanic in the scanner it said slow change between rich and lean and viceversa.
there were two more but i dont remember what i said.

the only thing i havent done is the disconnect the battery. im goino to do that today. but i think it will come up next day. because my mechanic clear the codes two days ago and the code came back up.

i have a Bosch O2sensor on the front and a AC delco on the back
could it be that bosch dont last long? or is something else?

You should never use a bosch 02 sensors on our cars. They are more problems then they are worth.
