What now?

Ok guys, I need some help.
I bought a 95 Z24 back sometime ago. A bearing went out and it was replaced. The crank was not damage so after I put everything together and crank it a lifter start making noise. I talked to a friend mechanic and he told me to forget about that motor and he doesn't even work on those motors. Any suggestions?
How about an Ecotec motor and the cost. Body is in great shape.
Plase call me a give me your opinion.

Thank you in advanced.

I don't know if the swap would be easy or what, but I have a 2003 sunfire w/ a 2.2 ecotec and it's a great motor. It's all stock, but it rips pretty good. 140hp/150lb-ft. I believe. A K&N filter smoothed it out a bit. A friend of mine has the same engine with a cold air intake and a custom exhaust and he loves it.
The only things I don't like about the ecotec are things I don't like about any 4 cylinder motor.
What would be cool is, if you did the swap, you dropped in a 2.0 supercharged ecotec from a cobalt SS.

It would be tough as your car is a 95 with OBD1, the 2.3L was a really good motor, 95 might not have been best of years, but still a good motor, i'd say either fix it (me thinks they did something wrong when fixing the bearings), or swap to a 2.3L HO motor, its OBD1 as well, and not sure on compaitility, but should fit. With the ECOTEC or LD9 (2.4L TwinCam), lots of wiring issues as they are OBD2, also, from what ive gathered, rad needs to be swapped as well as tranny mounts for the ECOTEC. The HO 2.3 I believe cams with 180hp, with close #'s in Tq. For the 95's thats the answer.

Thanks EW. I think I will be going that route. Unless I found the Eco from a Cobalt in areal good price.

The Ho is almost a direct swap in the 95 with manual tranny. 180hp and 160lbs of torque. Get a chip for that ecm and rev it up to 7450rpm.

Also, once you ahve the HO engine, just get a set of W41 cams and you'll get 10hp more.

don't go with an Eco, it would be stupid. Those things are slow as hell compared to the Ho.
