Hey
I did some searching around and couldnt find specific responses so I thought I would pose the questions and see what the experts suggest...
I havea 96 sunfire 2.2L with 114,000 miles on it.
Q1) Its been burning oil since ive had it (60,000 miles) at the rate of about 1 quart every 1500 miles. Is this typical?
Q2) Its been running a little rough latley. Misfiring occasionally, slight roughness to the idle, worst is at about 40-60mph with my foot slightly on the gas - I can feel the engine mis a beat every now and then.
At 70 to 80,000 miles I did a bunch of tune up work. New spark plugs (OEM style platinum) and plug wires, new PCV valve (old one looked fine though) and its had new fuel filters and air filters etc... along the way.
It did get a new o2 sensor at about 90,000 miles -a code came up so I changed it out.
I currently dont have a code up, but a few thousand miles ago the misfiring caused a code - which dissapeared before I could get it read. I put some fuel system cleaner through it and the engine smoothed out for a while. Now its coming back and I would like suggestions on what it could be.
My thoughts are fuel system related. Low pressure? bad pressure regulator, or bad fuel pump? How about just dirty injectors - since the cleaner seemed to help?
Could it be weak ignition? Anyone have any thoughts?
Perhaps I should check my plugs again?
Q3) My AC system is leaking. I could go and get some dye and find the leak, but perhaps you guys know of the most common places that it leaks? I have a black light but its one of those cheap bulbs you buy in walmart, would that help me find a leak if I had some R134 with dye in it? The leak was bad enough last summer that a fresh charge only lasted about a few days.
Q4) My car was broken into and I was looking for a new pass side door (since the lock was broken and the door skin damaged), Some auto salvage sites bring up cavalier doors when I ask for a sunfire door. They look similar, but are they the same (except for trim?).
Thanks for any suggestions.
Coil? Everytime mine ends up doing something like that, (along the lines of that) it ended up being one of the coils. Which happened like two weeks ago. If you look through the threads, I realized, a lot of people have the same problems.

Oil burning rate is a concern, but not life threatening. Try some Restore in the crank case. Coil packs are about due for replacement at this point. Get the A/C system serviced professionally. Save you gobs of hassle later on. Top off the refrigerant is OK, but solving leaks / recharging system properly should be done in a shop. Cav and Fire doors are identical except for trim. Structure and dimensions should be similar.
