Leland Sparks posted a very good link to great instructions on how to change the fuel filter. The only problem I have with the filter removel is the *#&%@*<+*@&*ing plastic quick disconnect at one end. It will not release. I am afraid it may break if I force it anymore than I already have. I sprayed pinatrent (?) on the thing but no luck...Has anyone actually been successful with a tough quick disconnect and if so would please share your secret? Please?
i got mine off. took me 20 minutes of trying every way i could think of. then it just sorta popped off with a flick of my thumg. just have to push it the right way. if i remember correctly, i kept trying to pull the little disconnects tab out. it ended up being pushed up. its kind of hard to explain though, which sucks for you.
...basically the little tab that needs to move goes up...not out. sorry if that doesn't help, i'm tired.
GO PATS!!!
ya i ended up breaking mine off and now i have to drop the tank to install a new fuel pump housing with all the hoses and stuff because of the hosing they use for the fuel filter.... but hay i guess thats what i get for my anger issues
I've never had to get under there to change the filter but are you sure that i doesn't come off with one of these...

I'm not sure but i've always wondered

There is a tool you can buy to remove that plastic slip the correct way.

First de-pressurize the fuel lines. I broke off the black tab cause I couldnt get it pushed in at all. Make sure to rotate the filter some to loosen the connection. I use the QD tools show above once i tore the OE tab out. Took 25 minutes to get the black tab out then less than a minute to slide the QD tool in and remove the filter. My new filter came with a new tab to put over the fuel line for future disconnect but since I own the tools It wasnt necessary. Repressurized the system and have had no leaks.
Oh and even the slightest gas in your eyes will burn for a while. Keep a bottle of water near by incase you need to flush your eyes out. Rust dust doesnt feel good in your eyes either.
i didn't need any tools. and i didn't break anything and used all the original hardware to install the new filter...so you don't HAVE to use the tools. its just probably easier.
GO PATS!!!
Redneck would you mind sharing your method of removing the fuel filter? It sounds as if you you have discovered something all of us would be able to use.
i really really wish i could find a way to explain it.
this is all i can do though.

thats how mine came off. i pulled and jerked and pushed with a screw driver...then finally i pushed the little clip up and it came out. i don't know of a better way to say it.
sorry i cant explain it better.
GO PATS!!!
Mine was easy as pie. Needed nothing but a flat head screwdriver to release the connector.
I went under the car dreading this job after reading these sorts of horror stories. I don't think mine is the same as what you guys are talking about though.
What years are your cars? Mine is a 2001.
To change it, there was a green locking thing in the side of the connector. You just popped it out with a flat-head screwdriver and then the connector was released. You put the new one in and used your thumb to snap the green locking thing back in place and it was done.
Nothing to it.
I'll post some pics later on that I took when I did it. This was just a few weeks ago.

just pull on tabs and then give a little jerk with a twist 20 seconds and there off another 10 seconds and there back on. i've done many and i find that is the best way.
