Black Liquid from exhaust

98 cavalier 5sp 2.2L 134K miles. Been having some stuttering issues and today I decided to just pedal thru it. It ran rough for about 2 minutes and I notices that under my exhaust was spattered black liquid. Ran my finger around the inside of the tail pipe and had black liquid on my finger. I turned the car off and wiped it with a towel and then restarted it and checked to see if it came back, which it didnt. It started running good for about 15 minutes at idle and I moved it around in the driveway and then my CEL came on with a P0171 if i remember correctly. Could this be related to me doing the seafoam in the 1/3 portions, crankcase, fuel, intake, and not getting any smoke? I have only done maybe 20 miles on it since i seafoamed it since its been running like crap. any help would be great. i have new plugs and wire, new front O2, new fuel filter, TPS, IAT sensor, and had the head gasket replaced and the head milled flat about 8 months ago.

the "black liquid" is just carbon and water. It's normal

Water is an all-the-time byproduct of clean combustion. The carbon is from Seafoam doing its job of decarboning, most likely. Nothing should be harmed by this, just plan to do an oil change within a week to get the crap outa the crankcase. Oil filter would be good, to.

p1701 I believe is lean on bank one. meaning your 02 sensor is seing too much oxygen, and tripping the computer into dumping more fuel into your engine. i had a similar issue. Turned out to finaly lead back to my fuel tank. Had a small pin hole in it which thre all the preassures off, and cause air to be sent up the lines.

hope that helps

SeaFoam, sold at AutoZone, is a all-around cleaner (fuel tank, throttle body, crank case). Half-step above Techron products. It's in a white 'tall' can w/ black lettering.

i may be wrong but most "engine flush" products tell you not to drive with them in the crankcase. you add it too the oil, idle the car for maybe 5-10 minutes, then drain (and refill) the oil and change the filter. seafoam may be the same deal...ive used it in all 3 before, but never left it in the oil and drove around.

I will change the oil this weekend. New fluid and filter are cheap. Since the seafoam, I put 26 miles on the car. Basically ran it up and down the side street to the store. All other times has been moving it out of the garage to wash it and to move cars around in the driveway. As far as the P0171 error, I might take it somehwere and let them figure out where its coming from. I did check the oil the other day and it looks pretty fresh. I was checking to see if it was milky at all. I will let it warm up and drain it and if i get a wild hair up my ass I might drop the pan and see if there is built up sludge left. I got this car from a spoiled rich college girl who probably didnt worry about taking care of her car since mommy and daddy bought her a new one. Thanks for all the responses.
