Any experience with GM Canada?
Monday, May 29, 2006 5:26 PM
Hey all,
My 99 Z24 just snapped a piston (#4) with only 108000 km (62000 miles). I maintained the car with regular oil changes and the damn thing still blew. The kicker is that the #1 connecting rod and crank bearing broke at 30000 kms! Had the engine rebuilt under warranty. Obviously, I have a lemon and have written to GM Canada customer support to see if they can do something for me. Has anybody dealt with customer support with a similar problem?

Have you done any modifications to the car? When did you have the rebuild done and did they give you and extended warranty for the rebuild? You may be able to get GM to give you what is called a good will warranty. They may offer to help with some of labour costs or parts if you have had the car serviced regularly at a GM dealership. If you get a no from the first person you talk to ask to talk to their supervisor but be polite. They do document conversations very well. So be calm and explain your situation clearly and make sure they are aware the problem was pre existing and it was repaired once inder warranty. Hope that helps.

The car is completely stock, no mods other than the stereo. I'm hoping for some "grace period" help since the warranty ran out about 10000 kms ago. I was just wondering if anyone had a situation like this and how they handled it. Thanks again.

I work for a gm dealer in Canada, I have seen cases like this... there is a good will form that some places give you.. I'm not saying that they will do it for you for sure.. 10,000 over may be a bit late. However it is worth a try... just ask what your chances of doing repairs under good will.. I have seen cases where Gm has split the bill..
Hope that helps
