Hey All,
I encountered this problem for 3 days now so my J is stuck on my driveway and still can't figure out what wrong with her. Everytime i crank my car it just crank but won't start. And the rpm goes up the redline, the fan turns on.
Do any of you guys had this problem before? what causes the rpm to go up that high, couldn't the rev limiter stop it from doing that? or did i blown my engine?
I really need help. All ideas are welcome.
I think if ya blew yer engine she wouldn crank.
Start with the easiest checks. Sounds like your power control module isn't working because it controls the tachometer and the fan and the car won't start.
So, try checking the fuse in the power distribution block under the hood. It's marked PCM and is a 10amp fuse. With a bit of luck that might be the problem.
Also, there is a fuse marked 10A PCM/IGN on the interior fuse block. Have a look at that too.
Thanks man,
Checked the fusesthis morning & they r all good, I took my spark plugs & connected it to my coil to see if i'm getting spark and didn't get any.
So, i suspected it could be my Crank Position Sensor. Is my conclusion right?
Are these the indications of a faulty C P Sensor? If not what are?
Peace Broda's ////////////
It might well be your Crank Shaft Position sensor. If you have a Digital Volt Ohm Meter you can test it like this, - set the DVOM to the DC scale say, 10volt range. Backprobe the sensor signal terminal A with the positive lead of the meter and backprobe the ground terminal B with the negative lead of the meter.
Now have an assistant crank the engine while you watch the meter. You should get a pulse of voltage of about 5 volts which would indicate that the sensor is ok. Of course you must also check if all the wiring to the sensor is good.
The sensor is located at the back of the engine near the oil filter.
mine was doing the same thing changed the crank sensor for 14.95 canadian and it started right up so try that but dont break the old one in the block its hard to get it out so good luck and let us know how u make out
Really, thats good to know that somebody is experiencing same prolem as i did and most importantly it's been figured out. di ur RPM goes up the redline if you start your car too?
Yo Nick, after you change ur crank sensor, wat did you do to your car? aren't you suppose to do a computer relearn for that. Is it necessary to do a relearn? Or did you just start your car and boom/// problem solve.
P.S. Good job and that price you got thier is cheaper compare down here.
Thanks, will tell u guy's stories after i change this nasty sensor.
Give me somemore ideas and answers pls.
If u want to,
Al
Just put the sensor in. The computer doesn't need any relearning.
i'm going to do this today,
so do i have to drain the oil since it is the 2.4Z and the sensor right above the oil filter?
No you don't have to drain the oil. Don't overtighten the sensor retaining bolt when you put the new one in. The manual says 88 inch pounds only. Also, check that the O ring is in good condition.
Bad luck, it didn't solve my problem i change the crank & still won't start.
Any more ideas what could cause this @!#$ty no start problem be?
Peace///
This is wat i like about our J's it always give me something to do on my spare.
