Hello All.. my check engine light has been on for over a year now... and i'm getting tired of looking at it.. the code says its the cat. converter sensor (O2 Sensor) thats setting it off.. i'm still getting wicked fuel mileage.. and the car is still running fine... anyone know how to get this thing to go out.. any wires?.. or anything?.. i'm not spending the $$ to fix it when the car has ran great for over a year now with it on... HELP!?
Oh.. i forgot to say... its a 1998 Z-24 Thanks Again!
what that code is telling you, is that the cat is not working as well as it should. that really doesn't have anything to do with how the car is running. you're probably going to fail emissions. you can clear the code, but it's just going to come back.
get the cat replaced, and then go to your local auto parts store, and have them clear it.

it's not necessarily the cat (although it easily could be) have someone who knows what they're doing look at it an make sure it's not the wiring or the sensor first. then fix whatever the problem happens to be and either have the autoparts store fix it, or wait the like 40 key cycles it takes to reset itself
You can get the O2 sim from Summit Racing. That will take care of that sensor. Or you could have whatever the problem is fixed. At that point it could be cleared with a tool, or after the problem is gone, it should go away in 2 or 3 ignition cycles. Though the computer will save it in memory for around 40 ignition cycles.
Put your ignition switch in ACC (all dash lights on, engine off) then disconnect one battery terminal wait some 60 seconds, then put the ign. switch back to OFF, now connect the battery terminal. This should reset the computer and erase the light. If it comes on again you should check the sensors, wiring, connectors, you may have some corrosion or bad contact, before changing parts.
he said that it's been on for over a year now, which is pretty obvious that there is an issue with the either the o2 sensor or the cat. if he just simply clears the code, or gets the o2 sim, he's not fixing the problem. he could easily fail emissions. let's not bandaid the problem here, help the guy out to fix the problem.

Ok, still a corroded connector to the sensor could be the cause just think it is worth checking the basics first and it is free only takes a few minutes.

very true. I can go with that. I'm just saying he shouldn't just bandaid the problem. if it's been on for over a year, he can clear the code, but it's just going to come back. getting an o2 sim isn't going to get him past emissions.

How do they do emmisssions? If they hook to the ALDL port, I'd say that the O2 sim most certainly probably will get him past emissions. Since it's going to tell the ECM that everything is ok. The sniffer test will probably fail though.
Cool. I had a funky situation where the light was flashing, and all of a sudden the car was misfiring all over the place. It was running strong the whole week after I had the coil fixed.
I shut it off, and restarted it, and it seemed like it was running fine, but the light was on. I am gonna try disconnecting the battery, bc unless there is something really wrong, I don't want to take it out and have it looked at again, bc my wallet is HURTING from the last repair!
Looks like my problem cleared itself. Maybe it was a computer fart or something. Keeping my fingers crossed!
