valve lifters ? hydraulic?

hello once again...quickie tho...my car sounds like a 1980's mercedes turbor diesiel?? do you guys know what that might cause it? cause one mechanic that changed my waterpump said that it was my timing chain that was dfoin that but when i start the car it doesn't do it, so another mech. says oh its his lifters? so can that be it is it loose or somethin!? is it hard to fix like tighten it up or somethin change it w/e . So when it starts to get warmer then it sounds like a diesiel. can you guys help me thnx......allooootttaa!!

if its your 2.2 than its just the timing chain. VERY comon on the OHV and they all do it. if its the 2.4 i dont know

its a 2.4 my friend told me it might be the lifters...or w/e i dunno ..ughh i hate my car but i looooove her ..lol..
