Do you have your owners manual. I dont know some trans it is 80/90 gear lube, some manuals even use ATF. Also dont forget to add friction modifer to your trans, it is very important, cost like $10 for the bottle, but it is a must have.

I use GM synchromesh from the dealer in my 96 z24
You are supposed to use GM syncromesh. I use 5w30 Motor oil.
DO NOT use gear oil.
why not use gear oil? everyone says use a 70w-90 synthetic, so thats what i did, finally got it done today. what wrong with gear oil?

I believe that your owners manual specifically says not to, that would be a good start. I'm sure it's also in a service manual.
GM Sychromesh or Pennzoil Synchromesh only.
You may be able to get away with 5w30
synthetic
Anything thicker and you'll blow your synchros
what shooff and kardain said.
I hate this city, I even went to the dealer to ask and 3 of the tranny guys said a 70W-30 is fine. thanks guys, will I be ok if I just flush all the oil out and put in the syncro mesh? Iva already put about 20K on it.

sorry 75-90 not 70- 30
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldnt do a 'flush'. Just drain it, and put in the syncromesh.
Kardain - I have 5w30, not synthetic either. Plus I got the 3400 pounding on the tranny now. And have had no problems with it.
I just went out to get royal purple syncoromax, says its good for manual trannys that can use regular motor oil. So that should be fine I hope.

Autozone has the Pennzoil Synchromesh cheapest in my area. Around 5 bucks per quart. About 1/2 dealer price.
God bless America.
If you don't want to spend te $$ on Syncromesh, use 10w30 synthetic oil.
This has been discussed here several times before. Regular gear oil will eventually eat your bearings, a lot of us use Trick Shift Dexron-III Full synthetic. I use that in mine and it shifts sooo
much better.
Don
Is there any issues with the royal purple? Ive had it in for about 2 days now and it shifts great.
