Thermostat Housing

I have been losing a lot of coolant. So I tried to pressure test the system to diagnose the problem but auto zone didn't have the fitting for my car (99 Z24)w/ the rent a tool thing. So I went to tire plus to have them check it out and they said that its the thermostat housing. They want to charge me $150 for parts and labor so I asked was it the gasket or seal and they said that no the thermostat housing itself was cracked. I didn't believe it so I came here and did some searching and many guys have had the seal go bad but none said their housing cracked. I think their trying to get me but do you guys think the housing cracked. I ordered the housing, housing gasket and thermostat since the housings gonna be off anyway. Im gonna attempt it myself but how likely is it that the thermostat housing is cracked

The thermostat housing is in the back of the motor under the water pump and its made out of iron or aluminum.

Are you thinking is that water outlet piece where the temperature sensor is hooked to the upper hose to the radiator under the S-Tube from the Air box?

if it is the thermostat housing down to the water pump, its just a tube that goes from the radiator up to the water-pump hooked
to 2 8mm bolts. I'm not sure if you can remove that...

can you clearly if its:
upper water outlet plastic piece or water-pump thermostat housing?

to make it easier,
remove the right front tire,
remove exhaust shield,
remove fender cover,
then...
Get an extension bar hooked to a 8mm socket and remove the two bolts
from the top.

It didnt seem like it was that hard to get too. I guess I'll find out tomorrow morning. And I'm talking about the water outlet. But, I thought the thermostat was in that housing. In the Haynes it shows it in there.

it is not hard to get to. its easy.

Remove the S tube from the air box
Remove the two bolts holding the outlet. I think they're 8mm or 10mm
Remove Temperature Sensor. (I think its a 15mm I can't remember)
Then...
Remove all hoses from the plastic outlet.
and that's it.
it might take you an hour

(remember to let the engine cool down first)
