Auto-Off Radio feature

Hi
I'm not sure if I can explain this properly, but I'll try.

Some of J's are equipped with the feature that keeps the radio/stereo ON even after the engine is off and the key has been pulled out.. for 10 minutes if the driverside door is not opened.

Well, recently my cav seems to be losing that feature. Even after I open the door, the stereo does not go off. This problem comes and goes, but I think it's happening more and more often.

Is there a sensor or a fuse that controls this behavior? I'm wondering if I can fix this.

I'm sure if you had a wiring diagram, it would show the door jamb switch being wired with the radio feature.

My 04 has the same thing, but works correctly.

I just noticed that the chime warning which kicks in when the door is open with headlights on and/or the key is still in does not work.

So this means that the car doesn't know that the door is open.
Maybe the wire has been damaged somehow?

It might be as simple as the plunger on the door switch sticking.

If, after opening the door, you can see or feel that the plunger is still stuck in, then that's the problem.

Peel back (or remove temporarily) the rubber boot that covers it and spray it with a liquid graphite lube (not wd-40) to see if that unsticks it.

If the plunger is working normally but the problem persists, then the switch (plunger assembly) can be replaced with a new one or from the junkyard.

Thank you all for help.
I'll look into that in the morning.

Thanks again.
