I'm changing my water pump and I got the new one on before reconnecting the timing belt to it. Now it seems impossible to get it on. Is there a way anyone knows of to get it on without taking apart my new water pump?
I've already taken off the tensioner and took out the 3 different things that slide out to give it more slack. Any other suggestions?
first of all..you dont have a timing belt..you have a timing CHAIN...but if you re refering the belt you DO have it has nothing to do with the water so im not sure i understand the problem???? and if you removed the CHAIN to change the water pump once again im lost cus ive never taken the chain off the change the pump
If I said belt that was just due to all of the convinsing all of the people I'm talking to that my car has a chain and yes it's a dual overhead cam... how ironic, but yeah I meant the chain.
I have a 2000 z24 which has the 2.4 liter. The water pump goes into the timing chain housing and is run off of the timing chain. You have to take it off of the water pump in order to take the water pump out, which is no fun. My problem is I can't get it back onto the water pump because I installed the water pump before I connected it to the chain, and really don't feel like taking it apart again to put it on. So I took off the tensioner and pulled the 3 things out described earlier. Now I need to know the best way to get the chain back on, knowing that when people take the chain off they don't always have to take the water pump off too. Seeing if anyone knew how to do this on this engine?
Try Removing 2 or 3 timing chain guides
If the tensionner is off and the guide are not holding the chain, take off the chain, aling both cam gear with the hole in the cam housing, aling both dot on the crank and housing, put the chain back it, put the tensionner, put hte guide, release the tensionner and put the cover back on.

So by taking it off and aligning everything that will solve my problems?
What I gave you in my post is how to time it. so if you take the chain off, place everything and put the chain back, you shouldn't have any problem.

Yeah I knew about the timing alignment. I couldn't figure out how to get it back on, and didn't know that you could put a wrench to the cams to get rid of the slack in the chain. I had a friend come over and showed me that right away. Thanks for all your help though guys!
