Hi! I got a 1989 Cavalier RS Coupe and I got water intrusion at the driver feet. And now i'm getting fed up cause it's raining for 2 weeks in here now.
It's the third Cavalier I got and they all did that. I know the firewall isn't rusted.
What should I do?
Thanks
Firewall may not be rusted, but in my 'Fire, there was a seam that in some way lost it's weld 'seal'. I think they came in from the wiper/grill area to find the leak. They gave me a HUGH break on the labor cost 'cause of it being a manufacture flaw (and I could've called in the lemon law clause on it!). There are also drain holes on each side in there. If they get clogged, then, well, of course.
You're talking about the ruber like thing on the side of this area? I don't have much left of that! I'll try to patch it with bondo.... If it can stop raining one day...
Thanks
On your car there are 2 drain holes to drain water out of the cowl area (this is the area where your w/s wiper mechanism is). They get clogged w/leaves, tree blossoms, etc. Their locations: Open the hood and look at the firewall. There are rubber flaps over the drain holes. One is easy to see on the driver's side, the other is under the blower housing. Pull out or vacuum any debris and blast the rest out with a garden hose. Make sure you can see both holes draining. If water is allowed to stagnate in the cowl area, the seam sealer can deteriorate and leaks can form at the body seams. Go to NAPA, Carquest or auto body supply specialty shop and get a tube of automotive seam sealer to replace any loose sealant.
God bless America.
