Jared, just take it one step at a time....

As to those spark plugs, Delphi in Flint no longer makes
those fine AC Delcos....

Delphi is in bankruptcy....

AC Delcos are now made by NGK and imported.....

Talk to your local GM parts department, see if the
AC plug now has a new part number....

Of course you'll save on cost by buying somewhere
other than the dealer....
Re: spark plugs

so ac delcos are the way to go? i thought nkgs were good... hmm.

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?mfrcode=ACD&mfrpartnumber=41948&parttype=960&ptset=A

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?mfrcode=BOS&mfrpartnumber=4211&parttype=960&ptset=A

there theres nkg, accel, autolite, and champion on this site...

um, fuel filters:

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?mfrcode=ACD&mfrpartnumber=GF578&parttype=4&ptset=A

theres also a fram and purolater... but the fact that they are 10 dollars cheaper scares me...

And air filters...

i have an aem cold air intake, with the older filter they made. the one where you could oil them to recharge it. But now they have a "dry flow" filter, http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=AVM%2D21%2D202DK&N=0&autoview=sku... Is it any good, or should i be looking for a k&n, because i cant find the right sized k&n filter. it cant be to big since its in my fender.

thanks

I installed some BOSCH Platinum +4 yesterday and they run great

On the subject of filters a popular source of information is :

This site also discusses spark plugs and many other maintenance
topics.
Re: spark plugs

i used the bosch platinum +4, and i hated them it made my car drive like crap. at first they seemed fine but then i noticed a power loss so i switched to Iridiums. maan do i love these, ever since i put them in my car it runs so much smoother and i dont have a power loss with them. if i were you i'd go with the NGK iridium or the denso iridiums. i personally use the denso but they are a tad more expensive

Which ones ? They have 1,2,3,4. I tried +1 they sucked but +4 I love em

I also have the Bosch +4 and I love them, until my fuel pump died but the plugs are great, had them for almost 2 motnhs now.
Re: spark plugs

why do i have this stigma in the back of my head that ac delco is cheap... i have no idea. so ac delco is better the nkg? and bosch? because ive always heard the bosh +4's were junk.

any thoughts?

My bosch 4+ plugs were great for about 3 months, then I saw a drop in gas mileage and the car idled horribly. Went and put the ngk stock replacements in and everything is back to normal. I'll never by bosch again.
Re: spark plugs

There's a reason those ac delcos make it 80,000+ plus miles in our cars. Stick with them.

Re: spark plugs

I have been using the Bosch +4 for 6 years now. Never had any problems. I don't believe in using a plug for 100,000 miles, so I changed my plugs last year after putting 55,000 on them. Of course I put another set of Bosch's in. I still get great gas mileage and never have seen a loss in power. I can only say that if your car runs bad with them, don't use them. As stated, I love them and plan on staying with them for as long as I have my car.

With our aluminum head engines, spark plugs need to be
unscrewed periodically to prevent 'welding'....

Whatever schedule for this maintenance (like 30,000 miles),
that's when spark plugs should be 'read'....

To understand what this means :

jared iwould go with better than ac delco seeing how you have other ignition up grades i ran ngk iradums for almost 3 years then the car started running kinda crappy so i thought it might be plugs switched to bosch platnum +4 cant really rate them do to car idling crappy

friends dont let friends roll stock
Re: spark plugs

Jared, if you follow this torque specification from the
service manual for your engine, you should never have a
problem removing spark plugs the second time.....

GM often does over-tighten the original plugs....

Service Manual :

Spark Plugs 17 N·m 13 lb ft

Jared, as far as which spark plugs to use, I can only say to try the Bosch's in your car. I did have a set of them in my 95 cavalier 2.2 when I owned it and never had a problem with it. One thing is if you do go to try them out, keep the receipt. Bosch will give you your money back if not satisfied. Check out their web site for this information. I looked at it this way when I first put them in my car, no money lost since there is a 100% warrenty on the things. If they don't work out for ya, try some different plugs. You'll at least get your money back from Bosch.

dude seriously stay away from cars this is the 3rd thread ive entered in 5minutes where your post was last and it was retarted. You get your money back if they dont work, oh yay by time you put them in, take them out and have to take them back youve waisted far more then the 3.00 plugs are worth.

If you look around you will find NUMEROUS problems with bosch plugs, misfires running @!#$ty. etc etc

and NO the more prongs you have the better

Brandon, quit following me around. I am speaking from my personal experience with the plugs. Besides, the plugs are more than $3.00. Try like $6.00 a piece. Just because you have had problems with them doesn't mean everyone has. There are a few individuals around here that have posted they have them and like them also. Why aren't you bagging on them? Jared asked for info and I am just giving him some.
On a personal note, I have been around cars longer than you have been!! Let's not start something here you or maybe even I could get banned for. I have not seen any real good info from you so let's not start something. This org is to help people out. Just because my inputs are last don't mean anything. I am on a late night shift and the only time I can get on the org.
Sorry to everyone else for the rant!!

1) You dont believe in changing you plugs every 100k miles youd rather do it at 55k but you you buy the +4 bosch plugs????

2) If you had any idea how the plugs even worked youd probably realize there not great just by the design

3) Cavaliers come stock with AC delco why? probably because it works well so why use anything else besides im sure you waisted more on those +4 junk then ac delco platinums cost anyway.

Thats fine and dandy they worked for you in my cars among other they sucked, i would gas hard and it would run like crap stutters n thing like that. your 50+ years old by the look of ur sig? Cars are alot different from back then man and removing your tuner tube and "bong" doesnt make your car a sleeper by anymeans.

Re: spark plugs
Friday, May 19, 2006 2:31 AM
I have other things done to the car and plan on doing more. I now cars are different now than in the early days, but I have owned many a car in my 50+ years and have seen all the changes. I may not be a mechanic on cars but I have done my far share of "backyard" maintenance on all my vehicles.
The Bosch plugs didn't work for you, sorry about that, but they do and have worked for me and a few others on this org. If you check out the Bosch web site, they had a statement there that the +4 might not work properly with the 2.4L engines in the GM models. I gave it a shot and they worked great in my car.
