Friend of mine has a 97 z22 auto with 220,000km. When shes at a dead stop and then accels to go, the car does i little hesitate (kind of a stall) before it picks up and goes. Now it doesnt do this all the time, only sometimes. Theres also lights that come on in the dash when this happens. ETS OFF and ABS, also LOW TRAC. it seems to do this when these lights come on. I replaced the spark plugs which did needed to be replaced and also the PCV valve. What seems to be causeing this?
thanks in advance
Chuck
Lots of things can cause a hesitation.
The very first thing I'd check is your exhaust back pressure. Now I can assume you dont have an exhaust backpressure gauge.
You can just remove your O2 sensor before the car and drive it for a few miles to see if it drives normal, if it does theres your problem.

i guarantee...throttle position sensor!!!
ok lets say it is TPS. How much does that badboy cost and where do i pick one up from, i live in Toronto Canada. Also do you think myabe its something i could just take out and clean?
Thanks
Chuck
Yup, TPS. Mine did the exact same thing. It was $30 from autozone.
hows the installation? simple?
tell u, for us here in Can. it's 55$ at Parts Source. Just change mine
Installation= simple.
Mine is 99 Z24 stick, I dont know if they r the same as automatic.
I have been having the exact same problem with my car hesitating. When it starts to hesitate, I just hit my brakes and go to a complete stop. Then it's fine to go. Is this the same for you? So all I need to do is replace my throttle positition sensor (whereever that is)? thanks
Guys does your cars has check engine light on? Cause' if it's the T P Sensor giving u this problem it's going to throw some malfunction code at u.
Peace////////

mine just has the ABS light on almost all the time, no check engine light. So its not my throttle position sensor then?
