Ok so, several months ago my CEL came on. After a couple hit and misses with the gas cap (it was the "evap emission control small leak" code), I determined it to be the purge valve in the engine bay. Picked it up from Chevy for $12. Disconnected battery, unplugged it, pulled off the lines, slide it off the bracket, slid the new one on, reconnected the lines and the battery and went along my way. About 3-4 days later, the code came back on. When I scanned it, it said "evap emission control system malfunction".. so I figured the part was bad. Odd that I'd get a defect off the shelf, but it happens. Well.. I put it off for a couple weeks because I just did not have the time to get by the dealer to defect exchange it. This past Saturday, I washed thye car and finally broke out the engine degreaser I'd bought a while ago. After rinsing the engine off, I went inside to get some towels and spot dry places where the water had collected. Once back outside, I noticed a wire and plug just "hanging" there.. after closer observation, I realised what it went to... the purge valve. I forgot to reconnect the wire when I replaced the old one and that's what threw my code again.
