My car starts to overheat when it's idle. It usually happens when I wait for someone and I just let it run for a few. It's never happend before, it just started recently. But when in drive, it never overheats. What could be the problem?

Why our cars always overheat?
I would say water pump.
The worst thing would a blown headgasket or cracked cylinder head or something
ahhh dont say that stuff!!!! cracked head!!! blown gasket!!! nooooooo! i really hope mine isnt something that serious... see my post... overheating!!!
sorry to scare you

I didn't mean to
That's the worst thing that could be, but it may not be
anyway,
its hard to tell online what is really wrong.
it could be the thermostat, radiator, water-pump, air in the system, anything.
Take your car to a shop that you trust!!!! ITS VERY IMPORTANT!!
Maybe you should go to the dealer just to find out what is wrong but go somewhere else to get it fixed if its too expensive or buy some tools and fix it yourself
unless is something more difficult like a cylinder head
Like I said,
Going to the right place to find out what is wrong is very important.
you don't want to waste money and time fixing something that has nothing to do with the real problem.
yea i have been reading some other posts, and i posted im my overheating!!! post check that tell me what u think...
how how did it go, because 210 is ok at idle for periods of time.
Well it stays at midpoint, but if i keep it at idle it keeps on going up and up slowly. Once I notice it, I turn the car off and the fan turns on. It'll take about 3 minutes to go from midpoint up 1/4 of the gauge. But like I said, it never overheated before on idle and it never overheats when in drive.

Well dario
Is youre car losing coolant, Whens the last time youre thermostat has been changed, Or coolant changed, Or rad, Have you ever done a flush treatment to youre cooling system?.
Does the cooling fan turn on when the temperature gets high? If not, the control switch needs to be replaced.
Fan works, fixed coolant leak 6 months ago, cooloant levels are fine, new cluster and thermostat 8 months ago. Houston is a very hot and very very humid city, could that add to the problem?

im still at a loss for my overheating problem. Im loosing coolant but the temp gauge hasnt gone up to the red area yet as to be over heating but when i look i see the tank bottle seems to have some wet spots to whre the breather like hose comes off it. i dont really kno if my fans turnin on or not yet but that wouldnt mean a loss of fluid would it? Im hoping it ths thermostat still but i wont get to that till the weekend. If its the head gasket then what woudl that be like to change?
the tank bottle may have wet spots because the overflow cap can only hold 15 to 20psi of pressure.
When the car gets hotter than 240F degrees, the cooling system pressure goes up and coolant comes out of the overflow.
Flush the system and replace the thermostat.
and also test the old thermostat in hot water.
(remember, The Spring always faces the Motor, Always!)
overheating is not electrical unless the cooling fan does not work.
Take the car for service before it does more damage to the motor.
