Cars Dead!

Ok guys my car has never had any starting problems before. And yesterday I went to Walmart with my girl and we came out the car wouldnt do anything. It had power everything cut on but when I went to start the car........nothing. No clicking noise, no slow start just nothing. Me and my girl had to push start my car, she found it so fascinating how that works and it took me the whole car ride home to explain it to her. Anywho.......... I dont know if its the starter, the solenoid, or that clutch pedal switch. Does anyone know where the solenoid is, and how to check the clutch switch on the 99Z24 5speed. Thanks in advance. I'm gonna start trouble shooting it when I get back in a few hours.

check the battery. if not the battery then its the starter or starter solenoid. check the starter solenoid by jumping it to the battery and see if it cranks.

the starter and starter solenoid is in the front of the engine, under the intake manifold...its between the radiator fan and the engine block.

if you dont know how to jump a starter let me know and ill post how to do it. but yes, ALWAYS start with the easiest stuff first, in this case: battery.

hope this helps.

Yeah I just checked the battery. Its good, and to be sure I tried jumping it and it still does nothing. And what do you mean by jumping the starting? Well I guess I dont know how do you jump the starter?

the clutch switch should be up behind the pedal. I dont know about the cavy but on my old s10 i could unplug it and it would start without pushing the clutch in,

Here is a link to all sorts of starting troubles advice.

Your problem could still be a bad or corroded Negative or Positive cable or a loose connection at the starter solenoid.

Please do not forget that the newer PERMANENT MAGNET FIELD starters can be damaged (The magnets crack) if you tap them with a hammer or something-IT'S A NO, NO.

Hope this helps

Hey guys after looking at everything and seeing how the alternator and battery were both good, and seeing how starters usually give you a warning before they go I checked my connections and found that the positive terminal screw and threads in the hole were striped. i switched the screws so that it would thread all the way in and crank right up. But, its funny how the screw has to be threaded all the way in. i even held the connector on to the terminal w/ pliers and it wouldn't do anything. The screw had to be in. Well thanks guys for the help but hey how do you jump a starter?

That is a myth starters can very well go out without warning... It happened to me in my old 91 saturn coupe...
