My CEL light came on in my 96 Grand AM 2.4 (5spd), and Im kinda wandering what this is. If anyone knows where the sensor is located, that would be great. I searched and it hasnt actually been covered. Im morely interested on what this sensor does. The car dosnt start properly, hesistates and cranks about 5 times on cold starts. All in all im wandering whether its because of that sensor, which is the code i got.
it's on the INTAKE cam. In the middle of the cam housing in front.

And to answer your other question, the sensor determines for the computer what position the cam is in, which will affect your car and possibly make it not run.
Thanks alot fellas, still havent fix it, does anyone have a pic of it.
You CAN'T miss it. Open the hood, check right over the fuel rail in the middle(horizontal) of the cam housing. You have 2 wires going to it and it's like an elbow.

Actually its so odd you mention hard start and the CAM sensor code.
The PCM uses the cam sensor to determine the injector pulse, if it doesnt have a cam signal, it looks to the crank sensor.
Now the crank turns 720, and the cam does 360, so it will take longer for the PCM to see where the crank and cam are than if the cam sensor was operating correclty.
For the first few cranks of your car, it will fire all the injectors simutanousley, until it locates the cam position correclty
