Battery light help please!
Thursday, April 27, 2006 4:27 PM
Hey guys, i searched the threads and couldnt exactly find an answer to my problem. Today on my way home from work, i had to make a sudden stop. As i accelerated my battery light came on, then shut off, then came on. Then i put two and two together. When i step on the gas really hard it goes off, when i let off it comes on? So i pulled over checked all the connections, they were fine. The ground wire is somewhat corroded but not too bad. I also disconnected the batter and let it sit for 15 minutes. After 5 minutes of driving the battery light came on AND the ABS. I replaced the alternator about tow years ago, and i am running a stinger dry cell battery (for stereos). Any idea whats going on? Thanks alot!!

I have always noticed the ABS light comes on with low voltage.

Seems as if you are only bringing up the voltage to put out the light when you rev the engine, it could be the alternator on it's way out.

Your earth connections should be shiny clean and tight- no corrosion!

I would clean the connections and test for 14+ volts with the engine running at the Battery terminals.

Or take it to a shop, if they will check the system for free

It's probably your replacement alternator going bad. I got an ACDelco reman from Advance Auto Parts years ago for 100 bucks and it lasted until I got rid of the car. But first like the others said clean your terminals and ground. Also check the connection at the starter. If the connections are even questionable replace the cables. They tend to get the "green wire disease" near the terminal ends.

God bless America.

Yeah...i pretty much figured it was the alternator...i find it kind of hard to beleive though, i replaced it two years ago, but stored the car for 6 months out of each year, so in all acutallity i only used the damn thing a little under a year. Oh well. Thanks alot guys!
