pretty sure you just need a jumpstart or a battery recharge.

if you do decide to replace the batt, even though its not needed, id get an optima yellow top if you can afford it. wonderful battery

It probably just needs recharged. But if you decide to get a new battery Interstate, Duralast Gold and the walmart ones are the ones I would get, in that order of preference.

No one's said anything about the AGE of the battery!! How old is it? And, yeah, I do that 'left lights on' every so often, to. If the engine ever starts cranking up a little slower, I take it in to have the battery checked. A volt meter hooked up to view voltage while starting could work, but ya need to take care not to blow anything up!

yea i know blowin up would sux, the battery i asume is as old as the car, which is 5 years old. which is were cuz mom and dad had a sunbird for 12 years and didnt have any problems...

Well, 5 years on an OE batery is just about right, 'specially if you put it under a big load every now and then. Cars of years ago didn't have nearly the electrical requirements that cars do today. 12 volt systems are barely meeting the demand, or at the limit. There's talk in the industry of either higher voltage, better battery tech, or both. Best that you go out and get a good quality battery, not an exact OE replacement. It'll last a little longer. Also up your CCA (cold cranking amps) in the new one from the old. The new battery won't have to work as hard and last longer.

are your terminals filthy?

first thing i would do is jump the car and get it home. once home, clean up the terminals if they are dirty.

second, pop the tops of your so called maintenance free battery, and top the water level up to the top of the lead plates with distilled water. you can get distilled water at the drug and grocery stores pretty cheap.

i had my OEM delco in the car for like 6 years and still had plenty of life. the only reason i swappd the battery out was because i wanted i higher cranking amperage for cold starts.

there should be about 6 chambers of liquid, top those up.

Where are you getting your batteries, white? Typical brand batteries have no caps or vents to pour water in. They all have a sealed flat top, with maybe a sightglass.

An Optima Yellow Top is an Optima Yellow Top, no matter where you buy it. So if WalMart has them, yeah it would be fine to buy it there.

there arent little things you are supposed to pop off anymore, but if you look at your lead acid battery, there are 2 plack things (i guess you could call them that) that pop off with a screw driver.

its hard to explain.
