I was attempting to pull down my the rear seat on my wife's 98 Cavalier, and somehow pulled the "strap" off. I spent nearly an hour last night trying to pull the rear seat down manually with my fingers, but never got it down. I am thinking that once I get that down, I will be able to re-attach (I did not rip it) the strap. Two questions:
1. While I was able to get the mechanism to move, I was never able to get it to "release". What do I have to do?
2. How do I re-attach the strap?

Can you get to it from within the trunk, i have a sub box in the way so I can't go out and check.

I am unable to see the mechanism from the trunk. It appears to latch into a piece just below the back window shelf.
