Will a newer plastic gas tank and sending unit bolt right up as a direct replacement for a steel tank if you swap the fuel pump as well? My 1997 cavalier gas tank is leaking and now has a dead fuel pump. So I thought why not get a plastic tank out of a 2000+ model with pump sending unit already installed from a junkyard and just swap it in. Other than the tank and electrical, what else might be required? Straps? Anyone try this or know if it will work? Thanks
I'm not sure if u can use a 2000 tank and pump on a 97. I'm probably wrong, but i remember reading a post on here about a year back about it.
I think it was somethign to do about the sending units and pumps differing?
Hopefully someone else can help

I understand the fuel pump/sending unit is different for the plastic tank but I would be swapping both tank and pump/sending unit from the 2000 Cavalier. Anyone know if the plastic tank is similar in size and shape and if it has the same mounting points as the steel tank? Will the filler hose attach the same way? Thanks
I am pretty sure the plastic gas tank will bolt right up. I am not sure with wiring harness that connects to the sending unit will match up. Usually the auto wreckers should have an idea or give the GM parts department a shout to confirm. I know the auto wreckers have a parts match lists of parts that are inter change able.
Good Luck
