factory alarm issue - 02 Z24
Friday, April 14, 2006 5:59 PM
I just bought an 02 Z24 sedan yesterday and I'm having some issues with the keyless entry. About 20-30 minutes after locking the car with the remote, the horn starts blipping, then it goes off full blast for no reason at all. I press the panic button to turn it off, and it doesn't happen again. At first I thought it was the remote sending random signals, but I moved it far enough away and the horn still went off. This has happened 3 times now.

I'd appreciate any advice you can give me.

Thanx, and looking forward to cruising with you in the future

I had the same problem last summer. It turned out that the driver side door jamb switch (switch near the hinges - black plastic push switch) was faulty. I just pulled the switch out of the harness, taped up the harness (didn't want to buy a new switch) and never had the problem again.

For you it could be passenger side so you will have to experiment.

Reason why I didn't buy a new switch...

If you turn car off (key out) normally you can leave radio on for a few minutes before the timer runs out an shuts the radio off or until you open the door to get out of the car. When you open the door, the radio will shut off and the courtesy light comes on.

With the switch removed, the radio will stay on even when you open the door. With the switch removed, the courtesy light does not come on. I like this situation better and so I didn't buy a switch.

Choice is yours.

Reason why I knew it was the driver's side door switch, while driving at night, about 5-10mins after driving, the courtesy lights came on by themselves. I pulled the driver's door inwards and light went off. Hence I knew problem was driver's side. Checked the door jamb switch and the switch's head was extremely worn down.

Good Luck

That's why there's the ACC position on the ignition switch.

Yes I know that. I just don't like leaving the key in the ignition switch and in the ACC position.

Personal preference.
