Hi guys. I just bought a 95 Cavalier 2.2 with 190k on it, 5 speed. It drives fine on the highway but when I get in to town and I'm driving like 50 or 60 km/h in 3rd or 4th gear it will drive fine for a minute, then start to jerk ,then usually smooth out for a minute, then jerk again. It doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold. There is no hesitation at take off it just happens while cruising. Any ideas what it might be?

Would their be a check engine light on? If so I would get the code scanned, Could be a speed sensor, Or upper lower motor mounts could be worn.

anyway i highly doubt its a motor mount sounds more mechanical then that. a motor mount would clunk when you take off or when shifting thats about it.
I would clean your throttle body, spark plugs, fuel filter air filter..
could even be a bad fuel pump or tps
mine was doing the same thing for about 5minutes yesterday i turned it off and back on 5min later when taking off it would sputter bad n barely want to move but it went away n hasnt done it since so who knows
Could also be the EGR valve/solenoid. If it is hanging open at low speeds it creates a vacuum leak so to speak. It leans out the fuel mixture. Could also cause a stalling situation, like running out of fuel.
my 96 kinda does the samething... it hesitates if i hit the gas hard in 4th or 5th gear... i think it is the fuel filter or the speed sensor could be an option... since i did get that code once....
I did get a code the first day when I picked up the car, but it was gone when I started it later and hasn't come back since. I'm thinking it is either the EGR valve/solenoid or the tps because it just happens at low speeds (up to about 70), never on take off, and it never feels like it is going to stall. Would the tps or EGR valve cause these problems with no codes?
My other guess would be youre one of youre O2 sensors could be going bad.

I just had it e-tested and it passed. Wouldn't a faulty O2 sensor cause problems with emissions? I'm just trying to narrow down the problem to troubleshoot. Is an EGR valve or a TPS expensive to replace?
