Throttle Body?

I have a 98 z24, and I was wondering what the very right plastic tube on the throttle body is for, it looks like a vaccum line, mine is broke in half and wondering if its really that important?

I can't think which line is on the right.... but then again I'm too lazy to go look at my car

Anyway, there's four lines on the TB... all vacuum lines for stuff.... the biggest one is the brake booster... it's got a big 90-degree angle on it. The next biggest one is the A/C evap system. There's two small ones, the one that goes to the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) on the end of the fuel rail, and the other goes thru the wiring harness all the way into the dash, to control the vacuum solenoids on the heater/cooling system.

They're all important... and a vacuum leak will lead to poor idle, fuel economy, etc. At the very least, put the parts of the line together and wrap them in electrical tape until you can get the line replaced.... best to just go to a wrecker and snag an identical line, so it fits nicely.

This is the one that is broke, what exactly does this one do, and what goes wrong when it breaks?

You'll lose vacuum, first of all, how fast depends on the severity of the break. Engine performance will suffer along with fuel economy. With this one, your HVAC controls won't work well or at all. Ever hear the little hiss when you change vent settings? That's vacuum making your selection happen. Another way to 'fix' this is to get a piece of vacuum hose that has an inner diameter the same as the plastic tube. Wet the ends of the plastic lines and jam them into each end of a short length of hose. Not permanent, but close to a replacement and better than the quick-fix patch using tape (not knocking it, GREAT idea for instant repair until a lasting repair can be made).
