This might be a dumb question but anyways here it is. What all is considered in a "tune-up" for our J-bodys? Just rolled over 70k today, and I'm getting ready to take it to the shop. Just wondered what all I needed to get done.
I would have the following items replaced during a tune-up:
air filter
fuel filter
spark plugs
and the following items cleaned:
throttle body/air intake
idle air control valve
That's my opinion.
andrew hit exactly what i wanted to say. Hell, today i took my intake mani n TB off to clean out the soot inside of em. mos def helps.
run a bottle of seafoam down the TB, in the crank (drive the car hard for about 30 miles then change oil and you'll see all sorts of crazy stuff come outta there normally) and the other 1/3 of the bottle thru the gas tank.
replace whatever else andrew was saying and you should be good.
oh and do the work yourself/screw the shop/ you'll just end up spending twise the amout of money there
timing chain, & few belts + all of the above, in my honest opinion.
We did a complete tuneup on my friends 96 Sebring, it worked WONDERS, the car ran like new.

Air filter, plugs, plug wires, distrubutor cap/rotor (if it has one), fuel filter, belt(s) and run a can of Chevron Fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank. Seafoam i've heard works pretty good but have not personally done it.

not necessary unless your very maticulous did mine at 120k because i HAD to and it was still very tight and all the guides were still intact perfectly
Timing chains do not require any maintance, thats belts that do.

Don't forgot coolant and tranny fluid at 100,000 miles. Might want to have the brakes bleed as well. Most people forgot about brake fluid
