serious misfire problem
Sunday, April 16, 2006 9:50 PM
I have a 97 cavalier 2.4. the car started with slight power loss and is now misfireing to the point where i cant drive it. I did a compression test, changed the spark plug boots, checked the fuel pressure, changed spark plugs, changed the cat. The car gave me a code for crankshaft position sensor, but after changing that no difference what so ever. the car will run GREAT some days and HORRABLE others, its never constant... other than thinking about changing the ignition control module, which it has never thrown a code for, im stumped. every now and then it will throw a multiple cylinder misfire code but thats it. has anyone else had this problem or and suggestions to lead me to another direction? i keep thinking its fixed and it proves me wrong. cars can be so frustrating.

Could be the coil pack. Did you change that?

Thanks for replying... from here we decided that we are going to give that a whirl, along with the ignition control module, check the plug on the computer for corrosion and probably going to change the air intake gasket...one of those has to work. wish us luck.

my man went shopping at the bone yard and found us a coil pack from a 01 alero.along with a control module..put them in and she seems to be running good...however...she has let me down before. im damn sure the parts were good cause the car it was in had to be going pretty good to wipe out the entire right front corner in about 3 feet. lets just hope she doesnt misfire at me again...it will be joining its alero friend at the bone yard if not...
