Engine Bay

Not sure where to post this, but it seems like general maintenance.

How does everyone clean their engine bay/engine? I've seen some straight amazing engine bay/engines on here and thats what I would like to do next...clean/polish the entire thing but I don't know about going about it.

if you just want to clean it then you can get some grease remover, spray down the entire engine, let it soak, then use a high pressure hose and wash it down. I also believe there is a bunch of stuff u have to tape off or wrap with a bag. i dont remember what tho. Someone with chine in on that subject more. I have never done it myself tho.

If you want to polish some stuff up like the valve cover or alt. That you would have to remove from the car and sand down to a mirror finish. I would probably use something like 220, 320, 600, 800, 1000, then 2000 grit. you can most likly skip 2 of those grits.

I like said i haven't done any of this. i got this from readin around on some post here and there from over the past few months. I'd wait to see what other ppl do before tring it.

Searched and found a topic that said to spray on Simple Green and let it soak for a bit, then wash off with warm water or cold if you cant get warm.

Once im finished with the Big 3/Hose Kit/Engine Bay cleaning I'll post before/after pictures of the engine bay and what simple green done for it.

Yea i use simple green on mine and it turns out great. Before you start though, what i do is take spray silicone and spray all the wire connections and cover the PCV filter. Also if your air filter is exposed cover that to. I just use a shop cloth because i do not use pressurized water, just a hose with a nozzle on it with a fan type spray. Also watch out around your distributor or ignition modual (which ever you may have) and the fuse box. Those are two things that you definatly do not want to get water in. And once it is all dry, take some tire-wet and spray the entire engine bay and then wipe off the excess. And once you get to a show just take a cotton cloth and wipe any dust or dirt off and you'll be all set.

Usually before a show a spend about 2 hours just on the engine bay so i am sure that i get all the dirt and it turns out amazing. My car has 60,000 miles on it and just by cleaning the engine bay it looks like it just came off the showroom floor. Good luck and can't wait to see those pics. If you have any more questions i'm sure someone else or i can help.
