seized brake caliper?

Ok, to start with I'll just say I'm not a total n00b when it comes to doing anything with a car - I can change oil, replace spark plugs, I've installed a couple air intakes - the usual not very complicated stuff. I don't feel I'm in over my head. So...

My wife's '02 Sunfire has what we'll call a bit of a brake "problem." Translated that means it sounds like it's attempting to sculpt metal from the driver's side front wheel area. And upon visual inspection the rusted stock rotor is quite shiny, from being ground against what I can only imagine is a nonexistant brake pad. We bought rotors and pads from Summit Racing and at first we planned to install them ourselves, but because of work schedules and all we then decided to just have a shop install them. Trouble is, every shop I've tried so far says they won't install parts that a customer brings in (of course, they want more money). So this evening I decided to just give it a shot myself. Of course we have no garage and therefore no light once it gets dark (and it's now dark...) I'll sum it up pretty simply:

That caliper is a motherf*cker. I got a 3/8" allen wrench and managed to get both bolts on the caliper to budge, and had them completely unscrewed. At this point I figure a bit of wiggling, maybe a tap or two from a hammer if it's really really bad, and the caliper would pop right off. No. No go. It's on there tighter than a virgin. Anyone have any ideas why it wouldn't come off? Perhaps there's something in there broken? (the piston? something?) And even so, if there is...how the hell do you get the caliper off there? Somehow torch the rotor off or something? (obviously I can't do that myself...)

Well Marcus Williams:

It seems to me why you are having trouble getting the caliper off, Is you need to use a flat head screw driver to ease to piston of the caliper from the brake pad and the front disc rotor, If that not done it could be a real pain trying to get the caliper off and putting the new brake pads back together.

How did I not think of trying something like that? Sounds quite logical.
